The restrictor reduces the amount of exhaust gas that comes into contact with the sensor element. This changes the sensor readings and prevents ECU fault codes common during racing conditions or after the installation of metallic catalysts or de-cat pipes. The restrictor does not completely block the sensor and still maintains a level of control and regulation.
